Why Use Outside Companies for Your Security?

November 2nd, 2009 PDF Security Advisors No comments

While this article deals with physical security of your company property, many of the principles also apply to online security, so I thought I would include it for you;

Effectively guarding your property is one of the most important decision that you will ever have to make for your business. It is not a question of if, but when, and who you choose to oversee your security, if you have a property that could be vulnerable. What makes it a good idea to contract out these roles, rather than employ someone to take control from within your company?

Several reasons spring to my mind. The primary reason is the increase in the value that an external company can bring, because of the professionalism of its staff and industry experience. The knowledge and experience that can be offered is built on past relationships with companies who at the time faced similar security issues.

Reason number two is likely to be the cost. Simply put, because of the expertise and experience that the vendor brings, the financial weight of training, recruiting, hiring and providing benefits for the employees is considerably less to the client than administering these programs in-house.

Third is the movement of liability from client to security firm who have been appointed for the task. The company used for the task has to bear all of the legal responsibilities for any incidents that happen on site.

Lastly, and in my opinion, most importantly is the peace of mind an effective security company can provide so you the client can focus on the everyday business that defines you as a company.

It is a reassuring sight to see your property marshaled on a regular basis by security guards, a fact that does not go unnoticed by those who may target your business. The key to appearing strong is the use of high visibility tactics, that demonstrate your intent to take seriously your security, which would introduce doubt in the minds of those looking for weakness.

An external supplier is likely to offer more than just the supply of a security guard. and may help to suggest options for protecting the premises in general. If, for example, you have vacant areas that need protection you may be advised about security screens. Perhaps there are areas outside that are vulnerable to occupation from people and their communities. It may also be in your interest to use concrete barriers to deter would-be invaders.
